What is "hosting"?

In order to have your website accessible on the internet, as well as having a domain name, your site must be "hosted" on a computer permanently connected to the internet. This is commonly called a "webserver", and there are a large number of companies offering this service.

When you purchase hosting services, you are principally renting disk space on a webserver, as well as numerous other facilities and tools necessary to ensure your website looks as you intend when viewed on the internet.

Another key factor is reliability of the service. This varies considerably, but typically we do not accept less than around 99.7% "uptime". All webservers need some downtime for maintenance and upgrades, but the better providers have the facilities and know-how to minimise this.

Email Facility

An important aspect of the hosting service is the provision of an email facility. With Bushtrack Web Hosting, you will be provided with your own email address based on your domain, and a number of individual addresses. Depending on the hosting package, there could be an unlimited number of addresses.

So if your domain name is www.mybusiness.com, you could have an email address of myname@mybusiness.com. Your key staff could have an individual email address, at no additional cost to you. In addition, you could have, for example: sales@mybusiness.com.
